Elon Musk’s Grok AI chatbot is now available to all users, free of charge, without the barrier of a paywall. Initially launched by Musk’s xAI in 2023, Grok was exclusively available to X (formerly Twitter) premium subscribers. However, it has now been made free, setting it apart from competitors like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude which have been free from the start.
Although xAI has not officially confirmed this change, numerous users have reported using Grok without any subscription costs, and we have independently verified that it’s available on X.
Grok vs. ChatGPT vs. Gemini:
Usage Limits: Grok AI’s free plan imposes strict limitations: users are restricted to 10 messages within a two-hour period and can process up to three images per day.
A report hints at the possibility of Grok becoming available as a standalone app, similar to Gemini and ChatGPT, which are already accessible on iOS and Android platforms.
Currently, Grok offers image analysis capabilities, and Musk has suggested that future updates might include the ability to process documents in formats such as PDF and Word.
In other news, xAI has raised $6 billion, boosting the company’s valuation to over $40 billion. Part of this funding will go towards expanding the supercomputer facility in Memphis, Tennessee, which houses Collosus, a key asset in Musk’s strategy to compete with the likes of OpenAI.
